The airwaves at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) are buzzing with fresh energy as MUT Radio officially welcomed its newest cohort of volunteers for the 2025/26 season. On 11 April 2025, an induction session was held at the MUT HR Boardroom to introduce eight dynamic students selected following a highly competitive talent search in March.
With over 30 passionate applicants vying for a spot on the University’s official radio platform, only the most promising voices and creative minds made the final cut. The new team are a diverse group of individuals; there are news reporters, show presenters, content creators and technical producers, each ready to leave their mark on campus broadcasting.
“This year’s talent search uncovered some truly remarkable potential,” said Ntokozo Buthelezi, MUT Radio Technical Manager. “We’re excited to guide these young individuals as they begin their journey in the world of radio.”
Following the formal induction, a warm and vibrant meet-and-greet session was held. This allowed the new recruits to mingle with the existing team, and got a firsthand feel of MUT Radio’s spirited culture. The gathering served as a platform to foster collaboration, mentorship and creative exchange.
With the addition of the 2025/26 intake, MUT Radio now boasts a whole team of 24 dedicated staff, covering weekday and weekend programming. The station, primarily run by students, continues to be a thriving platform for self-expression, professional growth, and community engagement.
Beyond the mic, a concept first coined by Professor Marcus Ramogale when he rallied behind the establishment of MUT Radio, supported by the Department of Marketing and Communications, prides itself on nurturing raw talent and equipping students with practical skills that align with real-world media industry demands. From content production and technical broadcasting, to live reporting and audience engagement, the station serves as a stepping stone for aspiring media professionals.
As the new season kicks off, listeners can look forward to fresh perspectives, innovative content, and a continued commitment to amplifying student voices.
Stay tuned – the future sounds bright at MUT Radio.
