Directions from King Shaka International Airport to MUT
- Take the ramp onto Outer Ring Road / N2 (partial toll road)
- Take exit 152 – Durban towards R102 / South Coast / M30 / Umlazi
- Exit left to R102/M30 Umlazi
- Turn right at the robot to South Coast Road / M30 (stay on left lane)
- Exit left into Umlazi / Mangosuthu High Way
- Drive straight through the first set of robots on Mangosuthu High Way
- Drive through another set of robots up the hill, there is a third set of robots go pass that too
- Drive pass the fourth set of robots, keeping left (MUT Faculty of Natural Sciences Campus on your right at the fourth robot)
- MUT Main Campus on the right at the fifth set of robots drive into MUT on your left (main gate right at the robot)
Directions from City centre MUT
- Take M4 southern free way
- Take Umlazi/Isipingo exit before exit to old airport
- Between the two take Umlazi exit on the right. Reduce speed
- Drive under the railway underpass and immediately take left onto Mangosuthu Highway
- Drive straight through the first set of robots on Mangosuthu High Way
- Drive through another set of robots up the hill, there is a third set of robots go pass that too.
- Drive pass the fourth set of robots, keeping left (MUT Faculty of Natural Sciences Campus on your right at the fourth robot)
- MUT Main Campus on the right at the fifth set of robots drive into MUT on your left (main gate right at the robot)
Directions from Marianhill Toll Plaza to MUT
- From the Marianhill Toll Plaza, proceed on the N3 to Durban pass the Pavilion Shopping Mall on your right.
- Take exit 165 at the Four Level Interchange for N2 toward Port Shepstone.
- Keep right at the fork to continue toward Outer Ring Rd/N2 and merge onto N2.
- Take exit 152 towards R102 / South Coast / M30 / Umlazi,
- At the traffic lights (robots) take right to R102/M30 Umlazi. Stay on the left lane.
- After about 300 metres exit left into Umlazi / Mangosuthu High Way.
- Drive straight through the first set of robots on Mangosuthu High Way.
- Drive through another set of robots up the hill. There is a third set of robots go pass that too.
- Drive pass the fourth set of robots, keeping left (MUT Faculty of Natural Sciences Campus on your right at the fourth robot)
- MUT Main Campus on the right at the fifth set of robots drive into MUT on your left (main gate right at the robot)
There are three ways to get to MUT by public transport:
1. By Taxi
If you come by taxi from town, the taxi will drop you off at the gate to the University. Remember to tell the driver to drop you off at the MUT gate. It will be easy to see because the name is written in bold letters at the gate. There are three taxi routes that go past MUT, MNR taxis, U taxis and AA & BB. You can catch a taxi from one of these three taxi ranks in the city centre;
- Pine Street, next to Game Store
- West Street, opposite Russell’s furniture shop
- Pine Street, next to the Cathedral Catholic Church
2. By Bus
If you come to MUT by bus, you must catch the Durban Transport bus. The bus will drop you off at the bus stop next to the University gate. There are three different bus routes that travel past MUT. The UMLAZI 2, UMLAZI 4, UMLAZI 7.
You can get any of these buses from the following bus ranks:
- Bus rank next to the Workshop shopping centre
- Bus stops ’emakethe’ near Berea Station
3. By Train
If you come to MUT by train you must catch the Umlazi train and get off at KwaMnyandu station. The University is walking distance from the station.
