IT&N to run an awareness campaign to empower staff to protect its network

The University will again join the rest of the world in acknowledging October as Cyber Security Awareness Month by running an online week-long Cyber Security awareness campaign. The 2024 theme is Secure our World. Njabulo Xaba, IT Security and Governance in the Department of Information Technology and Networks (IT&N), said the campaign will run from 14 to 18 October 2024. The campaign is called Cyber Security Awareness Week (CSAW).

Xaba said they would like staff to be aware of the online threats.  One of the threats is that if MUT information is compromised in any way, there will be brand reputational damage, which could be very costly. “We are appealing to staff to work with IT&N by complying with guidelines that the department gives throughout the year, not only in October,” said Xaba.

The information technology companies that will be making presentations throughout the week are Askaris, Mimecast, Simply IT, Itec Tiyende, Khipu Networks, and First Technology Group.

As usual, there will be prizes to be given away.
