While multitudes of grade 12 learners and their parents are holding their collective breath as they keenly wait for the release of their results on 14 January 2025, the University continues with the preparations for the first semester registration for the 2025 academic year. As of the end of last year, the University had received 103 483 applications for the 3223 places for the first-year students.
The Head of the Academic Administration, Xolani Kunene, has again appealed to the prospective students to adhere to all applicable guidelines so their application and registration process runs smoothly. Kunene reminded the learners that registration will be from 27 January to 7 February. Only learners who have accepted offers can register.
“Learners can visit www.cao.ac.za student portal and click on registration. Learners and parents and guardians can contact the University by calling its Admission Call Centre – 031 819 9299 during office hours, which are 8am to 4pm, from Monday to Thursday, and 8am to 1pm on Friday. They can also go to info@mut.ac.za for more information,” said Kunene. Kunene also reiterated that the University does not accept walks.
The Student Representative Council (SRC), part of the registration team, said it was fully prepared for the 2025 first semester registration process. SRC President Mhlengi Ngubo said they have implemented some key measures to ensure a smooth and efficient registration experience for all students, particularly first-year entering students. Ngubo said they have assembled a team of 44 trained registration volunteers to assist the students throughout the registration process. Ngubo said the initiative was aimed at guiding students and protecting them from falling prey to corruption and scams, which have been a concern in previous years. “The registration team will be easily identifiable, as they will wear branded T-shirts and carry official identification tags”. Ngubo added that they had requested enhanced security at the main gate to prevent unauthorized vendors and unrecognised individuals from exploiting students.
Regarding student accommodation, the President noted that the institution is not currently part of the NSFAS accommodation plot project. However, efforts are underway to finalise the inspection of off-campus residences to ensure that all accommodation options meet the necessary standards for a conducive learning environment, Ngubo said.
